Online learning systems such as Canvas, D2L and Moodle are not as advanced as experts think. Files are small, and so content has to be broken into such small pieces that learners can't easily find what they need.
Too many options hide the information learners need, take too-many clicks, too-much time and too-many basic questions just to find. Learners are overwhelmed, lost and very frustrated.
Not only that, YouTube's torrent of unrelated videos/adverts distracts learners and newer platforms might offer nice learning elements but they also add to the overwhelming number of links and clicks to navigate.
SOLUTION: Fortunately, there has been a profound information transformation. New online technologies (OTT’s, over-the-top networks) allow viewers to quickly find any moment of any content on super-sized streaming platforms, like Netflix.
OTT's handle, stream and store large data files. And so, we use OTT's to put all-learning-information into one place. Any information: any where, way or time.
And because any and all information is now easy to find, the most progressive and effective learning strategies happen. Learning's future is not hard to see.
- Our technologies manage large file sizes at high speeds
- Easy search/filter systems to organise and sort information
- Infinitely expandable, global-reach, geographic controls
- Learners use any information on any device, any where...
- Learning content is owner-controllable revenue assets
- No disruptions or distractions from 3rd-party motives
- Platform offers multiple forms of monetization
Our online school is just so annoying and irritating because you can't find what you need. You never know where anything is, every "bit" is hidden behind loads of other tabs, it's different for every teacher, if you don't know how to use the platform it's really tough and as well, it takes months to work it out.
Netflix-style learning is more straightforward because you can see all your options, lots of people know how to use it and even if you don't know how, it will only take 3 minutes to work it out.

Streaming-learning platforms: active learning
Now that any information is so easy to find, the most progressive learning theories can happen. These theories show how learning is based on and set up around
the giving of specific knowledge in specific ways, times and places.
Learners then get good at being told what to think and do, afraid of getting things wrong, looking foolish or simply surviving—listen, sop up, repeat like robots.
Progressive learning theories show how the best learning occurs when learners "use" knowledge. What forward-thinking universities call “active-learning”. But without the resources, active or using knowledge is hard to achieve.
Our progressive learning theory combined with progressive technology allows learners to easily:
..find and therefore move between any information;
..check, clarify and confirm or ask, explore and wonder;
..problem-solve, overcome ambiguity, deepen understanding;
..connect to other knowledge and to the learners’ contexts;
..find instant answers of whatever their problem is;
..be wrapped in a learning safety-net that allows for the mistakes that have to
happen for learning to occur.
Not scattered jelly beans of information but shelves of clearly labelled jars; or vertically categorized videos bolstered by flexible documents, resources, live streaming, embedded social media and built-in e-commerce exploding revenues.
ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS
- Industries need problem-solvers not robots
- Giving information leads to docile robots
- Current learning resources are set up giving information
- Learners need to practice by using information
- Learners need safety-nets to succeed
- Our platforms are learning safety-nets
- Our platforms allow check, clarify, confirm etc...
- Our platforms move learning from docile to active
THE DAYS OF IT TAKING AGES TO FIND THE INFORMATION YOU TRUST... ARE OVER!
Dr. Mills, I'm sorry for wasting your time and asking such basic questions, it's just we're drowning in information, instructions and ways to get the learning.

Employers need creative problem-solvers able to flexibly adapt to everyday real-life’s increasingly gritty, complex and ambiguous realities. Which is a problem when graduates come from learning institutions giving specific knowledge in specific ways, times and places and producing graduates who are very good at being told what to think and do, as we mentioned above—listen, sop up, repeat like robots.
Worse: science is so precise that the knowledge driving education and learning is delivered in silos, the internet scatters more and more unfiltered opinions and information like millions of jelly beans across an ice rink, and as described, online learning is not as effective as learning designers might think.
Already docile learners, or employees, are then too easily confused and paralyzed by so many information fragments, unsure what to trust and can’t find what they need, or at least it takes too long to find what they need …hence millions of mistakes and lost dollars!!
In the same ways that many established businesses file for bankruptcy because they can’t adjust to this changing delivery of information. In other words,
learning institutions need to show industry how their learning produces the problem solving graduates industry needs and "not" streaming learning is going to leave many institutions behind.
